who is engaged to be married.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both the U.S. citizen and the fianc\u00e9(e) (K-1 visa applicant) must be legally free to marry at the time the petition was filed and must remain so thereafter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to be eligible to file for the K1 visa, the foreign citizen fianc\u00e9(e) and U.S. citizen sponsor must have met in person within the past two years.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">USCIS may grant style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If it is contrary to the U.S. citizen sponsor\u2019s or foreign-citizen fianc\u00e9(e)\u2019s culture for a man and woman to meet before marriage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>\u00a0Filing the Petition<\/b><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the U.S citizen has met the above requirements, the U.S. citizen can then file Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fianc\u00e9(e), with the USCIS.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After USCIS approves the petition, it is sent to the National Visa Center.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span
